Every time I read that quote, I realise how true it is.

Speculation is that the fall of Mapungubwe coincided with the rise of Great Zimbabwe. Mapungubwe was home to the K2 people, to whom the gold artefacts found on this hill belonged.

Yellow- and red-billed oxpeckers occur in some SANParks.

According to Newman, they are related to starlings, but have very sharp claws for clinging to large mammals. Their bills are used to comb the animals fur for ticks and bloodsucking flies. Their tails are used as props in woodpecker fashion as they clamber all over their hosts.

Seems like they are really well adapted to their environment!

The Spekes Hinged Tortoise likes to eat mushrooms. I wonder if they've ever tried them done on the skottel at a restcamp such as Nkulu?

Unusual suggestion which I doubt very much! They are very much fresh and very much organic!

Crested barbets are very prolific in the park, there are plenty of them at Satara camp, they are cheeky little birds and its said in a myth, that they are the last birds made by God and He used all the left over paint and just dabbed it here and there on them to use it all up.

Pangolins have no external ears... and I would so love to see one in Kruger!

Restios are of the four major plant groups that occur in fynbos. They are reed-like plants, and date back as far as 60 million years.

Servals are one of seven species of small to medium-sized African cats. They have a slender build with long legs. Their back legs are longer than their front legs. They have a small head, large erect rounded ears and a long neck.

The coat of a Serval is yellowish tan with black spots, bands and stripes. The tails have black rings and the underside is white or light tan. The pattern of every serval's coat is different.

Tell me please, what kind of lovely striped froggy is pictured in the upper right corner of the SANParks website?

Evidently that is a painted reed frog.....
