I took some time and did some reading, looked at all the photos and now I'm ready to book, will have to do it first thing in the morning as it's nearly midnight my side of the world. I will try the online booking, never did it before.

I'm going to book as follows:

3 nights - Limpopo Forest Camp
2 nights - Leokwe
AND THEN Jumbo I'm going to take your advise and stay the last night at Tshugulu

Hi. I am visiting Mapungubwe for the first time in August. We are camping at Mezhou.I drive a Corolla, so will I be able to drive on any roads with a sedan?

Hi Stephan and a warm welcome to you.

When you get to reception they will point out which roads are safe for sedan. Some are not. The roads to the important sites such as the confluence and canopy walk should be fine.

There are also places that can only be done on a tour, such as Mapungubwe hill. I highly recommend it.

I hope that you enjoy your stay. It is a most magical place.

Been to Mupungubwe, Mazhou, in an Atos. We had no problem doing most, if not all, "non-4X4" routes. We even did the short stretch of river road between Maloutswa and the camp BUT it was dry - I would not recommend doing that when it is wet in a normal sedan. (our little Atoz loves playing with 4X4's, and go where they go!)

We are going to Mazhou again in September, and taking my dad with. He wants to take his caravan rather than tent like we do, but is concerned about the stretch of gravel from the tar road at Pondrift and the western gate. When we were there in March the road was fairly corrigated at places. Does anybody know (I never bothered to measure) the distance of that stretch of road, and caravaners, is that road OK for normal caravan (I think so)?

Do you think it's REALLY necessary to take Malaria tablets? It should still be chilly, I'm going next week Sunday for a week......what do you think?

this is not really Maleria season and there have not been any rains for some time. When I last visited in June I did not take precautions. Do however cover yourself up at dawn and dusk. It can get very warm during the daytime, but the nights have a bit of a nip.

I wonder if NetEk has posted the pictures promised after the July visit? If so, where?
Always stay at Leokwe but we have decided to pay the Forest TC a visit, a few "days" from now. So it will be a first in the tents.
If anybody visited the camp in the last month, please advise if there is anything of importance, one should know before we get there? I doubt it but things change so fast!
Cant wait to give the equipment a workout

By the way, I picked up the dreaded Malaria in Angola and never ever do I want to experience those effects again. So, yes, we will be popping pills as usual

Packing to go to Mapungubwe

I need some advice. A colleague and I will be working at a client close to Alldays in Sept. We are staying over the weekend, as it just doesn't make sense to drive back to Joburg for 2 days. We are considering visiting Mapungubwe for one or 2 nights. Thus, 3 questions:
>I drive a Fiesta, will the car cope in the park?
>Which camp is best? (I saw Vhembe is available, which looks pretty cool and cost effective , but most of the other camps have accomodation available )
>Whats the game viewing like?

We were in the same situation last year. and went to Punda, but felt it was a little bit too far for the amount of time, though still great!. But this is also definitly an option??

I apologise for repeating questions already asked, would just like some up to date info and some of the great advice I always read on this forum.

I drive a Punto and I went everywhere except where it clearly stated that it is a 4x4 route. I even went to Crooks Corner. Just take it easy.
I can only tell you that Leokwe is a super place to stay, as we were there in Feb. We will be moving in at Limpopo Forest Tented camp on the 5 th of September and will only be able to tell you what thats like after the 10th, but I have not seen any negative remarks abt any of the camps in Mapungubwe.
Game viewing is not Kruger Park, but it has its own beauty and we saw Klipspringer, Kudu, Elephant, Gemsbok, Red Hartebeest, Sable, Steenbok etc.
There are stacks of birds, The Treetop Walk, The Hide,etc, for 2 days you shld see enough to keep you busy.
Unfortunately you must decide. Enjoy.
