Hi,

Since I now live 10 km from the park, and we do work on it, ill assist as and when with advice regard visiting it.

Will liase with moderator, and will try and answer queries where I can when they come up.

Am not well versed with the amenities, and camp stuff, but know the bush, animals, roads, etc. of Mapungubwe.

Cheers all,
w

Wish I could ask you for help in planning a trip, but alas I have no plans as yet to visit the park

Are you involved in the water supply going through Mapungubwe Wildjohn?

Awesome stuff, wildjohn. That means you're an unofficial guru! 8)

I've got a question for you right here: how have the rains been in the area? Recently I heard Alldays was still very dry?

Oh you lucky  lucky  fish  !
I would appreciate it very much if you could let us know
when it's raining in the park. Particularly in the western section.

Hi all,

No not involved in water supply going through - know that de beers have a mine to the south, and they have a pipeline from Limpopo heading south..

Yeah, it has been quite dry, esp Alldays side of this area, and Map' Park. Some rain < 10 mm a week or so ago, now its threatening, with some cloud build up, but dont think anything major will come of it..

Normally this time theres more rain..? Anyway, will keep you in loop when it does..

Cheers all..

People there told me that December and January is their main rain time.

Two years ago there was a lot of rain in September in Mapungubwe, but that was highly unusual. Birders will remember the awesome seasonal wetland around Maloutswa Pan that year. As Imberbe and wildjohn said, Dec, Jan (and Feb) are a better bet. But sometimes it hardly rains at all...

Hi Wildjohn
Must have had some rain by now? I'm in Polokwane and we have had much more than expected (about 120 mm in the last 3 weeks or so.

This pic taken in February 2004, close to the hill.

Howdee wildjohn! Any rain yet? It looks like you should have
a good chance today. I hope so!
Nice shots Kingfisha. I've never seen any water in the Shashe. Cool!

Hi all,

Yes, weve just had rain, as of today, some 15 mm at my station. The park should be looking good soon - with flushes of duweltjies coming out soon and all..

Cheers

wildjohn: I don't like you it's just not far your just around the corner from my heaven. Maybe it's a good thing I don't stay that close I would be in the park more than at home.

How's it looking? Have the rains stayed or are we back to a tan of sandy silence?
