I fully agree with you JenB, but I am sure all the kids know their "ass" or should I say butt, from their elbow.

You might be perfectly correct but where would we draw the line?

My initial request was for a list of words that are not appropriate on the forum, not that difficult is it?

No, suppose it's not. As long as I don't have to do it.

And when one does use a derogatory word, instead of editing the post maybe a pm to the originator requesting a clean-up is in order.

Good point and taken.
Sprocks, the same way you might post something which may invite an edit without meaning to do so, we might also at times put the wrong horse before the cart thereby offending you without meaning to do so. You guys are very important to this forum and I personally invite you to speak up should you feel that you are being unfairly treated. :)

Sprocky,
(Re: who did I condemn?)

I was just replying to this comment:
"Maybe time to split this thread and let the senior members of society decide what we can and can't read or say..."

It sounded condescending..."senior members of society"... but I suspect I don't have to defend them, as they were once as cocksure as you,...and I.

"Education is the process of moving from cocksure ignorance to thoughtful uncertainty."

"What we learn after we know it all is what counts."

Perhaps we can all, young and old, learn something here. Whether we do or not... reveals our true age.

Jen, I'm sorry, but IMO anyone — parent or otherwise — who would take offense at the use of such an innocuous word as "ass" is living in the Dark Ages. If this forum is going to be that censorious, I have no place here, because I think it is irrational, immature and totally out of touch with 2010 realities.

I know Arks but this forum is a melting pot with members from all walks of life and of all ages. A tough balance to keep but we try our best.

Scips, now you're talking about crocs?
How many pieces to you want this topic to be split into?

Maybe a list of unacceptable words should be PM'd to all mites so that they know which words are allowed to be used.

When registering on these forums, all members undertake not to post vulgar content, and the forum rules are very self explanatory. I don't think anyone needs a PM to further inform them what are 'unacceptable' words

Let me remind you all of what you agreed to upon registration as members of these forums. Before you registered you read and agreed to this:

This forum is hosted by SANParks, who determine the rules of this forum.

Sounds like a good idea bud, but no profanity, lets practice the forum mods rules.

The mods do not draw up the rules, SANParks do. The mods try their level best to enforce the rules fairly.

JenB, thank you. Maybe we should all grow up a bit and face reality. Your comments are appreciated, thanks. Time for me to get my ass off the forum for tonight, catch you all tomorrow!

Africat, chill out. The "society" I refered to was the forum. Take a chill pill, or in fact better still, take another trip into the bush, you need a break from the hustle and bustle.

By the way, I am 45 years old if that answers your last comment, how old are you? :hmz:

Maybe it has nothing to do with age.

Maybe it just has more to do with something that is missing in todays society.

Arks, Sprocky Scipio.

Can you picture the following:

You're attending your childs school assembly and the principal is giving his annual report. He is concerned about the lower than expected academic achievements of the pupils and includes the following statement in his report:

"What may be necessary to get a little more effort from our students is for our teachers to kick a few kids asses".

or would you prefer this:

"We are going to have to ask our teachers to instill a little more enthusiam for their studies into our pupils and that may require some tough measures".

And we wonder why kids talk to adults as they please these days and there is so little respect for authority.

Use what ever language you like off the forum, thats your right.

Another quick thought. There is a constant stream of posts about visitors to Sanparks breaking the rules, but perhaps this present language issue is a wonderful example of just how people will argue against rules. And amazingly enough from some of those who speak the loudest about rule breaking.

Hawk you are quite right, but there must also be a distinction between "harmless"and "harmful"words.

I know that its a very thin line, but I believe that we are all old enough to make that distinction ourselfs thank you.

This thread is supposed to be about BB leaving the forum.

Could we split the discussion about what is and isnt acceptable language from BB's issue please?
