The Kokerboomkloof Camping Site in Richtersveld National Park has been closed temporarily due to inoperable ablution blocks. No new reservations will be accepted for Kokerboomkloof until the problem has been rectified. However, Richtersveld has made arrangements to accommodate existing reservations and will be providing them with portable chemical toilets. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Christchurch, New Zealand, 29 June – The World Heritage Committee inscribed 22 new sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List during its ongoing session in Christchurch. The new inscriptions include 16 cultural, five natural and one mixed, cultural and natural property, including the Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape.

On the afternoon and evening of Monday 17 October 2005 Richtersveld was subjected to storms with high rainfall and strong winds. This extreme weather caused havoc in the area with communities, stock farmers and business’s suffering losses. Thankfully, as far as is currently known there was no loss of human life.
